A FAQ I get asked in the shop is, “How do I get my photos from my phone onto my tablet or computer”?
There are many answers depending on the device. There is the old fashioned way of connecting the wire and installing the software that goes with your phone. But software packages from mobile phone companies all come with their own problems and headaches. iTunes for an Apple phone, Kies for Samsungs, Zune for Nokia… the list goes on.
There is a far easier way of transferring files. Use Cloud Storage.
It must be the term “Cloud Storage” that appears daunting because I get worried looks whenever I suggest this as an option. But it really couldn’t be simpler or more convenient to use.
Scenario: Take a picture on your mobile phone, tap the “OneDrive” button. Go to your computer and tablet – the picture is already there.
On this guide I will focus on Microsoft’s OneDrive Cloud Storage system. (Formerly known as SkyDrive but nothing to do with Sky TV)
If you have an Outlook / Hotmail email address (@outlook, @live, @msn, @hotmail) then you already have OneDrive. Microsoft have already allocated you 7GB of free storage for your OneDrive. That’s enough for a few thousand photos.

Step 1: To access OneDrive on your computer, login to your Outlook webmail as you normally do and click on the arrow that I have illustrated.

Next click on OneDrive.
That’s it. This will take you into your OneDrive online storage page where you can manage folders and upload / download files.
Once you are in the OneDrive page it really is self explanatory and easier than ever to use.
Step 2: Configure OneDrive on your mobile phone & tablet. This too couldn’t be simpler. Go to the App Store on your mobile phone or tablet. Search and install OneDrive. Sign in with your Outlook (Hotmail) email address and that’s it.
Finally test it to see how easy it is to use. Pick a photo on your phone and from the options while the photo is open “Share with OneDrive”. This may be worded differently on various mobile device types.
I have used OneDrive as the example but if you use Gmail then there is Google Drive, Apple’s iCloud, etc. Most of the major email service providers offer this facility.
Bullguard Online Drive
If you have Bullguard Internet Security they too provide storage space on the cloud. This is a great way of moving files between computers that are sharing the 3 User License.
Click Start / Computer / Bullguard Online Drive. When the window opens simply drag and drop files into that window. Go to the other computer and the files will be there.
You are now using Cloud Storage – How easy was that?
