Glasgow Taxis Outing to Troon 2017

This year’s date for the trip is Wednesday 21 June 2017

It’s almost that time again to welcome the Glasgow Taxis to Troon. This year (2017) will be the 72nd year as this annual trip has run since 1945.

The Route

The taxis will leave Kelvin Way in Glasgow (just behind Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum), convoy their way through the city centre and on down to Troon for the outing.

Sometime around lunchtime the convoy will arrive in Troon, greeted by Troon Citizen Of The Year Sheila Cameron, along with local Councillors and the Gala Queen & Princesses.

At approx 1pm, the parade will leave Troon Swimming Pool, along Barassie Street, Portland Street and Ayr Street and onto the beach front.

200+ Taxis Expected This Year

The procession will be led by Greater Glasgow Police Pipe Band. Over 200 taxis are expected, with drivers, carers, caterers and volunteers giving up their time to make this a very special day out for the kids.

As always local shops and businesses will be decorated and the route will be lined with people to ensure they all receive a warm welcome to the town.

Live Video Feed

Last year we realised that it might be a good idea to stream a live video of the taxis arriving in town on the internet to allow family and friends of those involved to watch the parade arriving in town. We simply streamed this live on Facebook but were quite surprised that over 10,000 people had watched the video with viewers and messages from all over the world.

Needless to say that this year we will be live again to allow those who cannot make it into town to line the streets. Those involved in the parade can watch later either on Youtube or Facebook. Here are the links: (for live stream and watch later).

Youtube (video will be uploaded mid afternoon).

Charity Donations

Donations to fund this day can be made in many ways. Look out for the Glasgow Taxi Outing collection boxes in pubs in Glasgow & Troon. Here are the links to the fund raising pages on Twitter and Facebook.
