The Fake Microsoft Virus Scam
This old chestnut is doing the rounds again and we are seeing an increase in users falling victim to this scam.
The original scam basically involved scammers calling you up pretending to be Microsoft, taking control of your computer and implanting malware and locking you out until you make payment demands.
Same Scam – Just Back-To-Front
This new generation of the same scam involves a web page being displayed advising you to call them. Same scam – just the other way around!
But by using official looking Microsoft logos and the fact that you have called them, seems to make the “convince” part of the con more effective.
DO NOT CALL THE NUMBER – is really the only advice we can give here.
In order to avoid this webpage in the first place, be careful what external links you click on within social media sites and from emails.
