With the Open due to tee off in here in Troon next week, we have been asked by quite a few of our customers “Is there a way to watch the golf without having Sky”?
There are various methods of receiving Sky Sports to watch the Open if you don’t currently have Sky TV.
Method 1: Virgin Media Customers
Call Virgin on 150 from your landline and have the Sky Sports package added to your bundle. This will give you Sky Sports for 30 days and cost around £30. Please be advised that they require 30 notice to cancel it from your package so as soon as you can receive the channel, call them back and give your 30 days notice to have it removed.
Other TV suppliers such as Talk Talk and BT have similar terms. Whoever your supplier is, you’ll be able to speak to them by calling 150 on your landline.
Method 2: NOW TV
Now TV is like a free-view box. You can pick up a Now TV box in supermarkets. It uses a LAN network cable or has built in wifi to pull a feed from your internet.
As Now TV is part of Sky, they offer Now TV users daily passes at around £7 and weekly passes for Sky Sports at around £11. The advantage of Now TV is that you can buy Sky Sports for the week without any contract. Better still you can watch on another 4 devices remotely such as iPad, laptop, X-Box, PlayStation.
Method 3: Go To The Pub
This is by far the best method of watching Sky Sports if you don’t have Sky. Unfortunately the first tee off is at 6.35am. Even for hardened drinkers this might be a bit early for a pint, that is if you can find a pub open at that time. A few pubs in town have Sky Sports and it’s safe to assume that they will be showing the golf.
Method 4: Go To The Golf
You could always get a ticket and actually go to the golf. This might not work out to be the cheapest option though.
Update – Sky 1 showing the opening day. BBC highlights in the evening.
