Yesterday Microsoft announced that their new operating system, Windows 10 will be released late 2015.
So here comes the question that I expect I’ll be asked in the shop more than a few times over the next year or so…
“What happened to Windows 9”?
The answer seems to be down to marketing from what I have read so far.
As always at Computroon, as we are a registered Microsoft Partner, we will have a preview of the new operating system running in the shop. I have just received my preview copy so will get around to installing it this weekend on a dedicated display machine which we will run for the next 12 months. We did the same with Windows 8, 12 months ahead of consumer release. This gives us a chance to begin to road test the OS and send back error and feedback reports to the developers. (A collective process called BETA Testing).
So before I post any views or reviews about the new Windows 10, I’ll give it a run and keep you posted.
I also must mention that whenever Microsoft have released a new operating system in the recent past, computers purchased prior to release have always been eligible for an upgrade.
So new (old) Start Menu aside: Any suggestions, such as 50p in the Lifeboat collection tin from everyone who asks us “What happened to Windows 9”?
