Support: DVD CD Disc Burning Software

Burning software.

Once apon a time disc burning was big business. High speed digital downloads and cloud storage have spelt the beginning of the end for the optical disc format. Heading the same way as vinyl records or film for your camera.

Notebook (laptop) computers are being manufactured now without optical drives included. disc_burning

However there is still considerable demand for DVDs & CDs.

I was asked recently by a regular customer in the shop if I still sold Nero Burning software. The only software I sell now is internet security so I suggested that he search the internet for free disc burning software as there are dozens of free alternatives to Nero. Two days later the computer was in to have virus’s removed!

Downloading “free” software these days can be a risky exercise. Search engines seem to be flooded with sites with software claiming to do something, but are in fact nothing short of virus’s that clog your computer up with malware and advertising.

So – I decided to take away the risk for anyone looking for free disc burning software, and after test running a few, here is my recommendation….

CDBurnerXP (Here is the link to download it)

Yes… CD Burner XP!!! Ignore the XP part of the name. In fact ignore the CD part of the name. Actually it’s a terrible name for such a great utility to have on your computer if you need to burn discs, whether it be DVD Videos, Data Backup Disks, ISO files or Audio CD’s. It even has a CD grabbing function for capturing your old CD’s onto your computer. It does everything that the Nero Burning software used to do, and couldn’t be easier to use.

Note: This software is free of charge and also malware free. However during installation untick the part that says “I agree” to install any additional software. When I tested this it suggested that I agree to install “Real Player” which I didn’t want so just ticked “Don’t Agree”. The install completed and the program worked great. “Real Player” isn’t a virus, it’s just normal for any free software to suggest that you also install some other bundle or toolbar. Just select “no” to these.
